To address this barrier, <strong>Lifeworks is embarking on a long-term project to create a disability-friendly assessment that would help people identify and connect with disability-friendly places in our communities.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"wysiwyg left gutenberg-block\" id=\"\">\n\t<div class=\"outer wysiwyg__outer pad-top-default pad-bottom-half\">\n\t\t<div class=\"inner wysiwyg__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"wysiwyg__heading\">Goals and Motivation of Project<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wysiwyg__text-wrapper wysiwyg__wrapper\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><em>This work is supported by the State of Minnesota Department of Human Services \u2013 Disability Services Division.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The disability-friendly assessment would go above and beyond the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), coaching businesses on how they can meet the criteria, while helping Minnesotans connect to these committed businesses.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure this project is created by and for people with disabilities, we are creating a <button class=\"keyword-context-button orange\">Community of Practice (CoP)<\/button> to help develop the criteria and give feedback on the process over the next 18 months.<\/p>\n<p>Our aim is to significantly enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities in Minnesota by creating a robust, user-friendly tool to help identify and connect with disability-friendly businesses. Why?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Over half of us working at Lifeworks have a disability.<\/li>\n<li>Throughout our 60 years of providing service, we have seen some improvements in accessibility, but not enough.<\/li>\n<li>2\/3 of unemployed and underemployed Minnesotans want a job! Using this, we&#8217;ll create a coaching and training program to support any interested Minnesota businesses and organizations in becoming disability-friendly. We constantly negotiate between safety and self-determination. We have duties to the person and to the courts. We help with housing, getting medical care, long-term supports and services, apply or monitoring public benefits, make sure yearly taxes are done, get them mental health services if needed, go to doctors appointments if needed, help with care comfort, and work programs etc. There are many players in a persons life which requires conflict resolution at times.&lt;\\\/p&gt;\\n&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;\\\/p&gt;\\n&lt;p&gt;Lynn offers a very unique perspective because she lives daily with her own disability and knows first-hand about issues of access, discrimination, funding, and ongoing changes in services and supports and how that affects others. She wants to be able to educate and guide you along your journey as you\\u00a0navigate systems. Lynn has served on various boards and committees both nationally and locally. Lynn enjoys theater, family, travel, church, music and local events around town.
